This cheat sheet aims at helping people starting in their XLSForm journey by giving examples of different formulas and features made available in the XLSForm world. Don't hesitate to first check out the incredible XLSForm.org website that will give you a great overview of XLSForm is and all its different features.

We built it first as an internal tool when we were learning XLSForm ourselves to centralise all the fun coding we were doing or seeing. However we've had requests from various actors of the humanitarian and development world to have just such a resource, and have therefore decided to make ours available directly!

This Google Sheet is organized by type of XLSForm feature, with one tab for each, explaining different examples of formulas/features you will encounter:

  • question types
  • relevant feature
  • constraint feature
  • calculation feature
  • appearance feature
  • repeat feature
  • form metadata
  • settings sheet

Also, two other tabs are there to help you understand the ins and outs of cascading lists, and also to know about interesting tools linked to the XLSForm ecosystem to help you validate your forms or use your XLSForm content to build a more user friendly version of your form.
